 Our Story

Abbiocco, which basically means FOOD COMA in Italian, is a chef driven contemporary Italian restaurant located in the Coffee Creek area of Chesterton, IN.

Menu highlights include a variety of fresh pastas made in house daily, dry-aged steaks, and celebrated Italian classics with a twist. Our dessert menu features a variety of house made gelatos, sorbets, and other sweet treats. Try one of our signature cocktails or something from our extensive wine list to top off your dining experience.

Abbiocco’s contemporary space features a rustic modern look with a combination of vibrant colors and dark rich woods. Luna, the upstairs bar features a retractable rooftop and seats up to 200 guests.

Open 7 days a week, Abbiocco Italian offers a full lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch menu in addition to a skilled team dedicated to catering & private events.

 

EXECUTIVE CHEF DAVID PAULSON

Chef David Paulson comes to the Lake Michigan coastline with the past few years spent at a larger venue in Culinary Management part of the team navigating take out meal programs and the challenges of adapting and maintaining a staff during the pandemic with an emphasis on consistency and quality. David spent the past summer working on Specialty Seafoods doing Grilled Oyster and Whole Lobster with accoutrements pop up events before coming on at Abbiocco in the fall and moving up as Executive Chef at the beginning of 2023.

He's spent the majority of his career cooking and growing in the American Southwest, running kitchens in Austin TX, Los Angeles CA, and Tucson AZ where the regional foods all carry over into local vernaculars and traditions based on ingredients and freshness. In California Cuisine, the basis of the Farm to Table movement was a big part of his journey and carries over into his dishes. The Scallop and Duck Breast dishes have been hits as of late, and a lot of these will be worked into our seasonal menu rotation. David was born in Michiana and happy to be bringing his travels, experience, and perspective close to home while enjoying the access to the city’s  food and culture.
